Introducing Live Border Status Map
Market Monday - Week 21 - New insights and live service available for Freight Perspectives subscribers
Hours after their inauguration (May 6th), the new German government announced stricter border controls to address migration. This measure builds on similar controls implemented mid October 2023. Both these German measures and comparable Dutch government actions have faced strong criticism from the European Commission, neighboring countries, and the broader economy.
I have periodically analyzed how these measures impact the transportation industry and wider economy. Some of you may recall the real-time map of major European border crossing points that we created during the Covid period.
Due to recent events and growing concerns about their impact on the transportation industry, we created a dedicated space within Freight Perspectives where readers can monitor border situations in near real-time (with a 4-hour delay).
You can access this space with the following link:
Given the high interest into the situation at German borders, we have added a special analysis of German inbound traffic below the live map. This analysis covers all land borders (excluding ferry points) and compares the current 7-day moving average against the 2023 baseline for average delays.
